Bio & Press Kit

The Tramp Aviators were born in a basement in West Oxfordshire, when two members of a successful local covers band decided that playing other people’s music was all well and good, but they’d rather create something original that would fire their inner passion, communicate their view of this crazy world we live in and really connect with their audience.

They started writing together and have created a set of folk-pop tunes with thought-provoking lyrics that have that unique quality of both entertaining and intriguing their listeners.  They have played local gigs and festivals as an acoustic duo with great success.  Their infectious tunes, combined with their challenging lyrics and charismatic live performances, have resulted in repeat gigs and a loyal and enthusiastic fan base.  In 2012 they won the OxFactor Final with “Happy Song” against significant competition and they have received coverage on BBC Radio Oxford and in local press.

As well as the local festival circuit they have also performed at Oxford’s famous Catweazle Club where they were described by convener and host Matt Sage as “my new favourite band”.  On the back of this success in 2012 they have written more material and scaled up to a full band ready to hit the festival circuit in 2013.

The full line up is;

Dave Porter: Chordsmith, multi-instrumentalist and producer

Paul Vanags:  Ego, words and singing, occasional hand-clap

Martin Waymark: Bass guitar, remembering important things, neatness

Gordy Wint: Drums, enthusiasm, tattoos

They are experienced musicians and performers and bring years of gigging experience, so you can rely on them to be thoroughly professional, know how to put on a show and leave with the crowd asking for more.  They write songs that people can enjoy and sing along to, but that have something more about them lyrically.  Their musical tastes are extremely diverse, with their with song-writing inspirations ranging from Del Amitri to Frank Turner, The Lemonheads to Simon & Garfunkel, Billy Bragg to Keane and from Dashboard Confessional to Matchbox Twenty.

Listen and enjoy!
